The Chapel at Croton Falls, in partnership with the Buddhist Association of the United States , the Center for Earth Ethics and Sage-ing International, will host an Interfaith Sunday addressing climate change on August 20, at 10:30 a.m.

Presenters will include Venerable Bhikku Bodhi, president of the Buddhist Association of United States at the Chung Yen Monastery in Carmel; Jerome Kerner, certified Sage-ing leader of Sage-ing International and chief Owl of the Native American Indian Ramapo tribe; Dr. Hans Hallundbaek, a Presbyterian minister; and Rev. Deborah Moldow, interfaith minister at the Chapel at Croton Falls.

“We are all intimately dependent on the environment and the climate in which we have our being on planet Earth,” Moldow says. “Sustainability is an ever-more-serious concern. The recent decision by the federal government to withdraw the United States from the Paris Climate Accord highlights these concerns, not only for our current generation, but even more so for future generations. While reactions to this decision may have a limited effect in the short term, a proactive approach of awareness raising, networking and information sharing on the community level promises to be a necessary and viable alternative.”

The August 20 gathering is just the first in a series of presentations and activities the chapel is initiating related to climate change issues. It will coincide with and highlight the release of former Vice President Al Gore’s new documentary, An Inconvenient Sequel.

“The gathering will seek to address climate issues from various perspectives, including the role of spirit- and faith-based organizations, and with a strong emphasis on the opportunity and responsibility of the elders in our community to contribute from their insight and wisdom, recognizing the slogan ‘Grey is the New Green,’” Moldow says.

Interfaith Sunday is free and open to the public. It will be followed by light refreshments.

The Chapel at Croton Falls is located at 609 Rte. 22, next to the Schoolhouse Theater. Parking is available across the street. For more info, email hanshall@optonline.net.
