Organic Thanksgiving Vegetable Baskets from Hilltop Hanover Farm

Hilltop Hanover Farm, a Westchester County-owned crop farm and environmental center, will again this year offer its popular Thanksgiving Vegetable Baskets, a cornucopia of seasonal favorites.

       “The baskets were offered for the first time last year, and clearly from the response there is a market for local, organic, seasonal vegetables,” says Helen Brady, president of Friends of Hilltop Hanover Farm, which manages the farm’s crop production and educational classes. “This is a wonderful way to share the harvest and joy of the season, and give thanks to local farms and farmers.” Each basket costs $45 and contains a mix of all or some of the following vegetables: cabbage, leeks, collards, kale, broccoli, turnips, radishes, beets, celeriac, fennel, carrots, potatoes, Brussels sprouts, butternut squash and herbs. Baskets must be reserved ahead by calling the farm office at 914.962.2368; they will be available for pickup at the farm November 22.

       Located in Yorktown Heights, 187-acre Hilltop Hanover Farm is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. This year the farm operated a 100-member, 20-week Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, a farm stand, and the region’s only pick-your-own vegetable program, while producing donations to local food banks. It advocates for sustainable farming practices, promotes local food systems and food security, supports watershed and environmental stewardship, provides environmental and agricultural education, and helps preserve the agricultural heritage of Westchester County and the Hudson Valley.
