Local Farmers and Local Food at Down to Earth Markets: Summer 2014 in Westchester

Down to Earth Farmers Markets is hosting several local farmers markets in Westchester communities this year, including Croton-on-Hudson, Larchmont, Ossining, Rye, Tarrytown and New Rochelle. All Down to Earth Farmers Markets bring together two kinds of vendors: local farmers and area food makers who source from them.

The farmers bring fresh offerings that change along with the seasons. The June harvest features strawberries, sweet cherries, snap peas, spinach and more. In the hotter days of July and August, shoppers can find broccoli, summer squash, eggplant, corn, peaches, blueberries and tomatoes. As fall approaches, the local bounty includes watermelon, pears, Brussels sprouts, collard greens and other autumn treats. Many of the markets also offer fresh fish, pasture-raised meats and chicken, eggs, cheeses, delicious pickles, prepared foods to go and breads and baked goods.
