Yoga and Grief: The Heart of Kindness: With Vitalah Simon of YogaShine

Vitalah Simon

This month, YogaShine in Valhalla, NY, will host two sessions of its new workshop, “Yoga and Grief,” which will promote healing through yoga, journaling, drawing, meditation and conversation. Sessions are September 14, 2014,  from 3 to 5 p.m. and September 15 from 7 to 9 p.m.

YogaShine owner Vitalah Simon will lead the workshop, which is meant to address any kind of loss. “It may be the death of a loved one, human or pet; the loss of a job, a dream, a body part, a house, a long-term relationship; the degradation of our earth—anything that disrupts one’s sense of stability,” she says. “We will begin to heal the experiences of loss in our bodies, minds, hearts and spirits.” While grief can’t be erased, the grieving process can be eased, she says. “Yoga practices provide a healing vehicle for the journey. They soften the harsh blow of disorientation, sadness and anger, and gently transmute the dark negativity back into life force.”

Simon has taught yoga and practiced dance/movement psychotherapy in Westchester for 25 years. “My commitment to my own healing journey is part of what makes me a reliable facilitator with others,” she says. “I envision this workshop as a prelude to an ongoing, eight-week workshop for those who find it helpful.” Those wishing to attend should call Simon to discuss their interests and make a reservation. The cost is $50. A sliding scale is available.
