Lucky Orphans Horse Rescue Fall Gathering
Sunday, October 4, in Dover Plains, NY
Lucky Orphans Horse Rescue—dedicated to providing a safe haven for unwanted, abused and neglected horses and improving the relationship between horses and people—will hold a two-part fundraiser, the Fall Gathering, on October 4, 2015, at its farm at 2699 Route 22 in Dover Plains, NY. Participants can support and learn about LOHR’s mission and meet some of the 46 horses in its care.
The earlier, donation-based session will run from 1 to 3 p.m. and include pony rides, face painting, hair chalking and a bouncy house; farm tours, vendors, food trucks, a bake sale and a raffle; and a Peace Pole dedication from 2:30 to 3 p.m. Suggested donation is $5. The evening session, from 4 to 7 p.m., will include a buffet dinner, a photo booth, a silent auction and live music. Tickets are $75 and include early-session activities as well. Tickets can be purchased at the barn or online at FallGathering.BrownPaperTickets.com.
The horses at LOHR are often so broken that they cannot be ridden or perform their traditional jobs. LOHR rehabilitates them, giving them a forever home and a new purpose. Through the EquiNorth program, they become part of a trained and certified mental health treatment team serving youth who are at risk or on probation; people affected by cancer, grief or loss; or people with cognitive or emotional challenges like autism, ADHD, self-injurious behavior, anxiety, depression and PTSD.
