Food As Medicine

Cognitive Issues: Migraines/Alzheimer's/Dementia

This series discusses the mechanism of action of food on the body and its healing abilities. In this lecture the focus is on cognitive issues. Ayurveda believes that these issues are due to an imbalance in one or more of the doshas – vata, pitta, kapha – and that digestion and the assimilation of nutrients found in a proper diet can alleviate symptoms and bring relief – and even work as preventative agents. For instance, magnesium deficiency has been linked to migraines, vitamin D deficiency has been linked to dementia, and low antioxidants, which reduce blood flow to the brain, is linked to poor cognitive functioning. Come and discover: • Foods that balance all three doshas • Herbs that have anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties • Foods that contain magnesium to include in a diet • Home remedies with herbs and oils to relieve a migraine • Foods that slow down brain aging • Foods that increase cognitive function • Best herbs for improving memory • The importance of safe detoxification • Foods to avoid
