Herb Garden Days at John Jay Homestead: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 20, August 17 and September 21

Lemon verbena

The New York Unit of the Herb Society of America is revamping its traditional Herb Fair for 2019. Instead of holding the fair in September, this year’s fair will take place over a series of days coinciding with Saturday Farm Markets at John Jay Homestead, in Katonah. Upcoming dates for those special herb days are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 20, August 17 and September 21.

The theme for July 20 is lemon herbs; for August 17, basil; and for September 21, rosemary, as free rosemary samples are a customary part of the Herb Fair. Each event will feature an Herb of the Month selected by the national Herb Society of America: lemon verbena for July, galangal for August and chicory for September. All the specified herbs will be used for tastings, baked goods and family activities.

The grounds of John Jay Homestead are open to the public daily from sunrise to sunset. The homestead Farm Market operates on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. from mid-May through mid-November. Vendors include local farmers, bakers and craftsmen who produce a variety of fruit, vegetables, meats, fish, dairy items, baked goods, prepared foods and handcrafted items. The market also features local musicians, children’s activities and information about local nonprofit organizations.
