Its line of Velika mattresses, for example, are made from environmentally friendly, sustainable, recyclable materials, including natural Talalay latex, cotton, New Zealand wool and rayon plant fibers. The mattresses are two-sided and hand-tufted for long-lasting comfort, with no carbon footprint, says owner John Davis.

If there’s anything old fashioned about this family-owned business, it’s the customer service, which might be why Davis Furniture is consistently voted the best furniture store in the Hudson Valley. Its salespeople don’t work on commission, so customers can relax as they shop, Davis says.

And shopping there is an event, as the store offers American-made furniture in every category, including affordable custom-made furniture that can be sized and upholstered to order, with hundreds of fabric options.

“We’ve been giving our customers more and charging them less for over 90 years,” Davis says. “We also provide free local delivery and removal service.”
