Creating Positive Ripples for the Past Sixteen Years

“I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.” – Mother Teresa

As Thanksgiving approaches, I am counting my blessings and this year at the top of my list is gratitude for the amazing journey I’ve had as Publisher of Natural Awakenings magazine’s Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess edition which began in November of 2007. That’s right; this issue marks the edition’s sixteenth year! I’d like to take this opportunity to thank my talented, creative production team, the entire Natural Awakenings’ publishing family, so many remarkable advertising partners and, of course, our dedicated readers.

Here at this milestone, loving remembrance and appreciation also go out to Marilee Burrell, my publishing partner who passed away last November. It’s hard to believe a year has gone by already since we lost her and I find myself often reflecting on our 15 years of unity and camaraderie. We were a team and I will always be thankful to her for those meaningful years as we published this magazine with love and joy together.

I took a look back at our premiere issue this week—40 pages and only black and white print at the time—it is still apparent that the essence and foundation of Natural Awakenings was there from inception. And how delighted I was to find two wonderful souls who have traveled with us on this magnificent path of mind, body, and spirit since the beginning: Paula Caracappa, founder of the Awaken Wellness Fair (happening this year on November 5) and Pamela Cucinell, certified astrology consultant who writes our monthly Planet Watch column. A huge thankful hug goes out to both of these special ladies for supporting us and being an integral part of the healthier community we’ve been building collaboratively for the past 16 years.

We wouldn’t be here today without the hundreds of local businesses that have aligned with us over the years and who make up the base of our loyal advertising partners. These are incredible local practitioners, healers and business owners; many of whom I’ve worked with personally; consuming their products, taking in services, classes and events and also enjoying friendships with so many, to this day. I thank you truly for being part of our Natural Awakenings wellness community.

Additionally, I’d like to recognize all the nonprofit and community organizations that share the same passion for healthy living and a healthy planet as we do. I’m grateful for your partnership, and, together, I know we have created many positive ripples in the lives of thousands of readers.

With Gratitude,
