Green Profile: Shades of Green, A Natural Partnership

Myra and Ken Marsocci went to school together at the School of Professional Horticulture at the New York Botanical Garden, so it was only natural that they went into business together, too. Since 2002 they’ve co-owned Shades of Green, Inc., providing services for garden design, organic garden maintenance, installation, seasonal displays and ornamental pruning.

Myra has a design background that was fostered on Nantucket and transplanted to Westchester County. “In every one of her designs there is an element of natural beauty combined with practical application,” Ken says. Ken’s background is in nursery production and retail operations—expertise that has given Shades of Green a reputation for outstanding quality and selection of plant material, Myra notes. Currently Shades of Green sells its herbs, vegetables, perennials, shrubs and annuals through garden club sales and the Peekskill Farmers Market.

Shades of Green has been gardening organically for seven years and supports public gardening efforts. Most recently, Myra assisted in creating the Peekskill Daffodil trail, and she currently is helping Hudson Valley Hospital design a new vegetable garden for cancer patients.
