Fire Meets Form and Function

Niels Wittus has watched plenty of businesses flame out over the past 30 years. Meanwhile, he has nurtured and grown his Westchester-based corporation, Wittus-Fire by Design, which since 1978 has imported high-grade contemporary fireplaces, stoves and accessories to meet the needs of the American market. Wittus says form, function and fire have been a winning combination. “Functional, fashionable and ecologically responsible—that is Wittus-Fire by Design,” he says.
Wittus cultivates a broad selection of modern hearth products, including a line of stoves imported from Denmark, Germany, Italy and the Czech Republic, and European-designed products made in Vermont and Connecticut. “All our products combine up-to-date automated manufacturing techniques with hand-craftsmanship,” Wittus says. “Top-quality steel, special glazed ceramic, and fine sandstone and soapstone are used in their construction. The finished products are thus of the highest quality, and long-lasting.”
The stoves’ aesthetic appeal is matched by their performance, he adds. “Their advanced burning system has set new standards in the field of wood, pellet and gas burning,” he says. “The wood and pellet stoves burn cleanly and efficiently with adjustable air controls. The gas stoves utilize the latest in valves, remote controls and burn technology.” Wittus fireplaces and stoves meet all US and Canadian standards for wood- and gas-burning models, and the wood-burning stoves are EPA certified.
The Wittus-Fire by Design showroom, located at 40 Westchester Ave., Pound Ridge, NY, is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m.-4 p.m. by appointment only. For more info, call 914.764.5679 or visit Wittus.com.
