Great Blue Outfitters (GBO), located on Route 22 in Patterson, NY, is launching its fourth season equipping and assisting outdoor enthusiasts as they explore nature by land or water. Specialists in kayaking and canoeing, GBO supplies everything necessary—including transportation—for self-guided trips to amazing places like Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge.       

“We’ll take you there and pick you up when you’re done, so you can concentrate on enjoying the peace and quiet of this beautiful natural setting,” says owner Mac Rand. “You can see a wide variety of birds—like the swamp’s namesake, the Great Blue Heron—and perhaps a beaver, mink or other wildlife.” GBO sells Old Town and Necky kayaks and accessories, including several new models for 2012. The store keeps several models in stock so shoppers can try them out before buying, Rand says.   

For hikers, GBO carries packs, tents and all the gear needed for a day or overnight trip on the nearby Appalachian Trail. “If you’re not sure where to go, you can get trail maps and guides at the store,” Rand says. “Plus you can shop for that ‘outdoorsy’ person in your life.” Among the many new retail items at GBO this year are products from Sierra Designs outerwear. The store also carries books, Kelty backpacks and much more.
