Local Chef Creates Farmers Market in Yorktown That Gives Back: The Yorktown Farmers Market will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday, May 19, 2012.
Westchester Personal Chef Karen Symington Muendell has teamed up with her family to create Maize Market Management (M3), a non-profit organization operating a new farmers market in Yorktown. The Yorktown Farmers Market will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday, May 19, with special activities and giveaways, and stay open for business every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. until October 27.
The market will take place on the field behind the Commerce Street firehouse belonging to Yorktown Heights Engine Co #1. Visitors can enter the market on Veterans Road. Rental fees paid by M3 for the use of the field will help to support the volunteer fire company, and the majority of proceeds from vendor fees will go to different charitable organizations. Local charities are invited to book the designated free booth at the market to distribute information, sell goods, and hold raffles. Guiding Eyes for the Blind, Alliance for Safe Kids and the Yorktown Teen Center are some of the charities on the market calendar so far.
The family oriented market will feature activities and contests for shoppers of all ages. Vendors will offer produce, meat, cheese, bread, sweet baked goods, pickles, artisan sauces and spice rubs, plants and flowers, natural body care, and green cleaning products.
