Gilda’s Club Offers Cancer Support for Men: Based in White Plains, NY, Gilda’s Club Westchester is a place to learn how to live with any type of cancer.

Men often deal with their health problems by not dealing with them. But when cancer strikes, there’s no way to shut it out and turn to the pressing matters at work. Gilda’s Club Westchester, a free community for anyone touched by cancer, offers a variety of support and social activities throughout the year geared just for men, including a networking group the third Wednesday of each month and a prostate cancer group also held monthly. “One way men find comfort and support is through information and facts,” explains program director Amy Mlodzianowski.

Based in White Plains, NY, Gilda’s Club Westchester is a place for men, women, children, friends and families to learn how to live with any type of cancer. “Statistics show that about 29,000 people are diagnosed with cancer in this region annually,” Mlodzianowski says. “One out of two men and one out of three women will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lifetime. There were about 720,280 new cancer cases for men in the US in 2006. Nearly 43 percent of American men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime.”

Gilda’s Club Westchester, an affiliate of Cancer Support Community, has become known as an essential supplement to medical care because of its non-institutional setting, she says. Founded in 2001, it now has more than 3,200 members and provides a full schedule of free support and networking groups, lectures, workshops and social events.

Gilda’s Club Westchester is located at 80 Maple Ave., White Plains, NY. For more info, visit GildasClubWestchester.org, call 914.644.8844, or email [email protected].
