In August, Natural Awakenings magazine of Westchester/Putnam acquired the franchise rights to Dutchess County, NY. The move allows the company to distribute magazines and reach the healthy living community in Dutchess, Westchester and Putnam counties.

“Expanding our reach into Dutchess makes perfect sense, as our Westchester and Putnam readers want to know about the incredible retreat centers, local food businesses and wellness centers just a short trip north,” says Dana Boulanger, co-publisher of Natural Awakenings Westchester/Putnam & (now) Dutchess edition. “Likewise, health-conscious Dutchess County readers want to know about resources that fit their natural lifestyle when they travel south.”

Publishers Dana Boulanger and Marilee Burrell launched the Westchester/Putnam edition of Natural Awakenings in November 2007. “Bringing the Natural Awakenings message of ‘feel good, live simply, and laugh more’ to the northeast was a dream of mine that came true,” says Burrell, who also co-founded the Fairfield County edition of Natural Awakenings in Connecticut with Lisa Jacoby and Mary Karnis in 2004. 

The first edition of Natural Awakenings was launched in Florida by CEO Sharon Bruckman in 1994.
