Landscape designer Lia Russ, owner of Enchanted Environments in Westchester County, has created a new company to help people who want to create backyard farms. On Site Organics analyzes yards and sets up fully functioning vegetable gardens, giving people the option to choose how much, or how little, they want to be involved with the various growing phases.

Russ has also opened Divine Garden Design, a company focused on creating beautiful spaces in gardens and yards using edible plants, and fruit, nut or seed bearing plants, as part of the structure. “The edible plants mixed into the landscape give the feeling of foraging as people stroll around their grounds popping fresh blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, string beans, peas and other foods into their mouths while visiting flowers or throwing a ball for the dog,” says Russ. “There is something deeply satisfying about producing food, and beauty can be edible.”

Both of these services offer start-up or turnkey gardens designed to provide as much or as little help as is needed and desired. “We will create them, tend them, and bring the harvest to your door,” says Russ. “We can advise you and even tend your garden while you’re on vacation. We are committed to the concept that growing one’s own food benefits all of us, including the planet.”
