Celebrating a Decade of Chiropractic Care for Athletes and Non-Athletes: Dr. Leigh Damkohler in Yonkers
Dr. Leigh Damkohler, DC
Dr. Leigh Damkohler, Westchester’s only dually licensed sports chiropractor and massage therapist, is celebrating her tenth year in chiropractic. Damkohler, who began practicing massage therapy in 1997, started her chiropractic career in Norwalk, Connecticut in 2004. She has been in Yonkers, NY, since 2011, when she also became a Chiropractic Sports Physician.
The integration of soft tissue work with chiropractic care is what distinguishes Damkohler’s practice. “In 18 years of bodywork experience, I’ve found that the combination of muscle or fascial release with adjustments helps patients to recover from injury or acute pain much faster,” she says. “For athletes, soft tissue work and adjustments are essential in enhancing their performance and preventing or managing the nagging injuries that tend to plague serious athletes.”
Damkohler works with local triathletes, runners, personal trainers, and fitness instructors, using such methods as Graston® Technique, Neuromuscular Reeducation, Kinesio Taping and Nimmo Trigger Point Therapy. “Helping athletes to achieve personal records is one of the most gratifying results of my work,” she says.
