Healing Touch recently became the first energy medicine profession to achieve accreditation through the National Commission for Certifying Agencies, the accrediting body of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence. According to Betty Feldman, a Healing Touch certified practitioner in Fishkill, NY, the Healing Touch program is the only nationally accredited education program with an exclusive focus on energy medicine. The Healing Touch certification has been in place since 1993, and there are currently 1,228 certified Healing Touch practitioners worldwide.   

Established by holistic nurse Janet Mentgen in 1989, Healing Touch has been integrated into many hospitals, hospices and health-care facilities in North America and has been taught in 32 countries. “Healing Touch is a gentle energy therapy that address goals set by the client,” Feldman says. “It brings a deep sense of relaxation, reduces pain and anxiety, connects the chakras, and balances the energy field around the body. Its heart-centered, intentional approach facilitates healing, supports conventional medical treatment and restores balance and harmony in the body’s energy system.”

Feldman sees clients privately in her home healing room by appointment. She provides pre- and post-surgical sessions, as well as support sessions during cancer treatment, radiation and chemotherapy. She also teaches self-care energy techniques to medical and psychiatric support groups and has provided Healing Touch to nurses, doctors and hospital personnel. Healing Touch is endorsed by the American Holistic Nurses Association.
