On Wednesday, June 18, 2014, everyone is invited to bring their yoga practice to the streets at 5:30 p.m. for the annual Get On Your Mat for Mental Health event on Court Street in White Plains, NY. The event, created by the Mental Health Association (MHA) of Westchester, has been named one of the seven most inspiring mega-yoga events in the world by Well +Good.

This year’s event is led by renowned yogi Matthew Sanford, author of Waking: A Memoir of Trauma and Transcendence. In the book, Sanford recalls the car accident that left him paralyzed from the chest down, and the subsequent waking of both mind and body through yoga. “The principles of yoga apply to all people and to all bodies,” says Sanford, who will be making his first Westchester appearance at Get On Your Mat.

The event is for all ages and all levels of yoga experience and includes a yoga marketplace. Registration is $20 in advance and $25 on the day of event, and the first 500 registrants receive a free mat and gift bag. Yogis under 12 pay $10. Music will be provided by Answer the Muse, a spiritually inspired performance ensemble. After the yoga class, everyone is invited to stay and dance. MHA is a community-based mental health agency that has been helping Westchester County residents for 68 years through direct services, professional and community education and advocacy.
