Local Westchester Chef Offers Seasonal Menus for Schools and Families

Farm-to-table chef Laurie Gershgorn is teaming up with local schools in Westchester and Putnam counties to teach children healthy eating habits and culinary skills. Students will learn new recipes each month, coordinated with school staff to be incorporated into the school lunch program menu.

For seven years, Gershgorn has taught students ages 5 to 14 to cook with locally grown ingredients, in addition to providing personal chef services via her company Healthy Culinary Creations LLC (HCC). “The care of our planet is in the hands of our children,” says Gershgorn. “By giving children the tools to succeed in the kitchen, we’re giving them the tools to succeed in caring for themselves and the sustainability of our food sources.”

HCC specializes in personalized attention and adaptive meal plans, preparing meals in clients’ homes each week. Gershgorn teaches families how to cook and eat whole foods, broaden their culinary horizons and achieve optimal health through a locally sourced diet. New dishes are developed for each client based on specific tastes and preferences, and they change seasonally based on food options from local farms. Currently, HCC is growing and looking for chef assistants and instructors.
