“Loving Our Addicted Daughters Back to Life” Author to Speak June 9: at the Somers, NY, library on June 9, 2015

Linda Dahl, local author of Loving Our Addicted Daughters Back to Life: A Guidebook for Parents, will be speaking at the Somers, NY, library on June 9, 2015,  from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Currently, more than 8 million American women are estimated to have a substance use disorder, Dahl says, and the majority got addicted in their mid-teens to early twenties. Dahl wrote her book based on her experience as the mother of a then-teenaged daughter who experimented with marijuana and pills and then became a heroin addict. Her daughter is now in recovery and leading a productive life.

The author of seven published books and many articles, Dahl has given many book talks, discussions and lectures. She will speak about gender-specific addiction research and how it helps in treatment and recovery; tools for recognizing substance use disorder and relapse in young women; communication between daughters and their caregivers; and managing parental shame, guilt, fear and anger. A Q&A session will follow her presentation.

Registration is required. Call the Somers library at 914.232.5717, or register online at SomersLibrary.org.
