Year-Round Farmers’ Market Now “Saturday Pilgrimage”: Gossett Farm Market in South Salem, NY

For many folks in Northern Westchester, the Gossett Farm Market in South Salem, NY, has become a Saturday pilgrimage—a chance to catch up with neighbors, buy fresh local produce and snack on vendors’ samples, all while strolling through Gossett Brothers Nursery, which has been serving area gardeners for more than 30 years. Owner Tom Gossett says a farmers’ market seemed a natural and exciting way to serve the community even better, and so about ten years ago, the area’s only year-round farmers’ market was born.

Regular vendors include Bee Guy Apiaries (honey, candles and “how-to” advice from expert Guy Hodges), Do-Re-Mi Farms (produce), Johnny Cake Farms (locally produced meat), Wave Hill Bread, Honore’s Table (baked goods and salads), Du Soleil (prepared salads and meals) and Bongo Pasta (seasonal ravioli). Gossett says the market’s changing selection of fresh fish is a customer favorite, as is its homemade ice cream. There are also locally made crafts available from jewelry shop “And the Beads Go On” and a decorative woodworker.

Market shoppers can help out neighbors in need by donating pantry items at the Community Center of Northern Westchester table. The market distributes donated nonperishables like canned or jarred items, cereal, fruit juice, and baby food and supplies to thousands of households across more than 30 area communities.

Gossett Brothers Nursery is open seven days a week, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The Farm Market is held Saturdays year-round, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. (indoors from November to April) at 1202 Rte. 35, South Salem, NY. For info, visit Gossett Brothers Nursery on Facebook.
