Rise Above Floatation Brings Sensory Deprivation to Westchester: 111 East Main Street in Mount Kisco, NY

Rise Above Floatation, the first deprivation float center in Westchester County, will celebrate its grand opening September 20 at 4 p.m. at 111 East Main Street in Mount Kisco, NY, on the first floor of the Elephant’s Trunk Building. The event will feature international DJ Jonathan Toubin.

Owner Micah Saccamanno says the center offers three unique float experiences for “meditators, athletes, artists, and those just looking for some way to relax.” Float tanks are designed to remove any stimulus from the outside world, relieving the floater of stress on a conscious and subconscious level. During a session, the floater bobs on top of 10 inches of a supersaturated Epsom salt solution to reduce the effects of the forces of gravity on joints and muscles, while the air and water are set to the body’s skin temperature to minimize the body’s homeostatic response. The tanks are insulated from both sound and light. “Floaters have compared the effect to being back in the womb or floating through space,” Saccamanno says.

Floating puts the brain into a Theta state, between waking and sleeping—a level of heightened awareness that advanced meditators spend a lifetime seeking, he says. Scientific researchers have found that floating complements treatment for mental issues like eating disorders, addiction and PTSD; enhances and accelerates injury recovery; and improves physical performance when combined with visualization techniques, he says.

Memberships to the center are available. For booking and more info call 914.241.1900 and visit RiseAboveFloatation.com.
