Yoga for Special Populations and Needs in Westchester: Oceanawave Earth Yoga for Health and Wellness

Nanci DiBernardo

Nanci DiBernardo, a Certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher and owner of Oceanawave Earth Yoga for Health and Wellness, has completed a Special Populations teacher training at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health.

The training covered Ayurvedic and yogic approaches to cancer, heart conditions, the lymphatic system, trauma, and such special populations as the elderly, private clients, expectant mothers and teens. “This training gave me enormous insight into integrating special techniques through embodied learning,” says DiBernardo. “It taught me to be more aware of, and attuned to, not so much what I’m teaching but how. It’s about meeting students and clients where they are and developing a unique yogic program suited to their individual needs, purpose, and lifestyle, and assisting them with proper alignment.”

DiBernardo also uses The Art of Seeing (Bo-Shin) and The Art of Touch (Setsu-Shin) with students and clients, guiding her to tune into their energy. “These methods allow us to empty ourselves and become truly open to trust and receive through seeing and touch,” she says. “This gives us the information we need to facilitate a deeper experience of the yogic pose for anyone we’re assisting.” DiBernardo will work with each student and client to develop a unique yogic plan suited to their particular needs and intentions.
