Amenia’s New Health Food Store: Monte’s Health Nut Hut at 51 Mechanic St.

Grand opening September 6, 2015

There’s a new energy on the streets of Amenia, NY. It all started with the opening of Monte’s Local Kitchen and Tap Room, a farm-to-table restaurant that quickly became known for its hip bar scene. Now the Monte family has announced plans to open Monte’s Health Nut Hut, which they promise “is not the typical health food store.”

Monte’s Health Nut Hut will feature a bike-up/walk-up window to cater to the Rail Trail crowd; lots of healthy grab-and-go snacks and drinks; and local, organic and/or sustainable products. According to the family, the store’s mission statement says it all: “To be truly helpful and kind to all who enter; to nourish the body with pure organic products; to nourish the mind by sharing of knowledge; to nourish the spirit by providing a calm, happy, hopeful environment inside and outside our four walls.”

The Montes (five siblings and their spouses) are no strangers to the hospitality world. In 1906, their grandparents opened the original Monte’s Italian restaurant in Brooklyn, which still exists today, and then ventured out to Montauk, Long Island, when the town was no bigger than Amenia. They owned and managed Gurney’s Inn Resort and Spa there, along with their parents. for more than 45 years. Now the tradition continues in Amenia.

Monte’s Local Kitchen is located at 3330 East Main St., Amenia, and the Health Nut Hut is right next door at 51 Mechanic St. Contact the store at [email protected] or 845.789.1475. For more info, visit MontesHealthNutHut.com or on Facebook at Monte’s health nut hut.
