“Dignity Approach” Helps Build Healthy Relationships: With relationship and communication coach Debbie Weinstock
Debbie Weinstock
Effective communication isn’t just about two people understanding each other, says relationship and communication coach Debbie Weinstock; it’s about two people being able to convey their thoughts while staying sensitive to each other’s needs. It’s what she calls the Dignity Approach, and she specializes in helping people use that approach to build healthy relationships and resolve interpersonal conflicts.
“Whether in intimate relationships, at the family dinner table or at work, good communication often boils down to learning how to honor each person’s dignity, and how to recognize the unintended negative effects that violating a person’s dignity can have on the relationship and the person’s sense of well-being,” she says. In her coaching sessions, the essential elements of dignity—like acceptance, understanding, inclusion and acknowledgement—are explored in the context of each person’s experience. Weinstock says the Dignity Approach offers practical strategies to create fulfilling and harmonious relationships, repair damaged relationships, improve interpersonal skills and develop self-confidence for lasting success.
“My clients learn how to use the Dignity Approach to resolve conflicts and identify the specific ways of interacting that are causing friction in the relationship,” she says. “Once people understand the mechanics of how to put the Dignity Approach to work, lives and relationships can be totally turned around.”
