New Practice Focuses on Emotional Component of Health: Putting Wellness back into Healthcare

Denise Foulkes, a licensed clinical social worker, has opened a new practice in Yorktown Heights, Hygeia Integrated Health, to help “put wellness back into health care.” Complemented by a team of wellness professionals, including an acupuncturist, a clinical nutritionist, massage therapists, psychotherapists and a psychiatrist, Foulkes focuses on the emotional component of wellness in order to impact her clients’ health and quality of life.

“Seventy-five percent of all healthcare expenditures in the United States stem from emotional, behavioral or mental health issues,” she says. “When we feel good, we do good. We eat right, exercise, make healthy choices and have healthy relationships. And when we don’t, we engage in negative behaviors such as eating and drinking too much, smoking, not wearing seatbelts, lack of exercise, and poor diet choices, for example, that result in chronic preventable health states that drive much-increased healthcare costs.”

She says the key to success at Hygeia Integrated Health is sticking with its program of long-term, consistent treatment in order to achieve and maintain improved health and emotional function. “Our team will develop a customized treatment plan to accomplish your wellness goals while helping you emotionally to stay with it,” she says. “We will also offer educational workshops and support groups on various topics, such as nutrition, parenting, stress and anger management, and substance abuse and dependency.”

Hygeia Integrated Health is located at 3505 Hill Blvd., Yorktown Heights, NY. Some insurance accepted. For more info, call 914.734.2205 or visit HygeiaIntegratedHealth.com.
