Thyroid Is Culprit behind Many Health Symptoms: Comprehensive Thyroid Testing

Dr. Timothy Morley

“Low thyroid function is one of the most misdiagnosed medical problems in the United States,” says hormone expert Dr. Timothy Morley, medical director of Tomorrow Medicine, whose offices in Mount Kisco and White Plains offer the most extensive thyroid testing in the Tri State area. “While most physicians check only one or two thyroid markers in the blood,” he says, “I check twelve, to figure out why my patients experience low thyroid symptoms.”

That testing is much more comprehensive than the standard, Morley says, and it includes not only all thyroid hormones but also autoimmune disease markers, toxins that disrupt normal thyroid function, and the building blocks of the hormones themselves. “When you don’t have all the information, you can’t fix the problem,” he notes.

When the thyroid is imbalanced, it affects other hormones as well. So Morley educates his patients about the role the thyroid plays, explaining that thyroid hormones influence more bodily functions than any other single hormone, including weight control and metabolism; fatigue; memory; body temperature; mood; and hair, skin and nail health. In many cases, low thyroid can even cause depression.

After reviewing lab results, Morley and his team treat the root causes of symptoms, the most common of which are weight gain and fatigue. “Losing weight is impossible in the presence of a thyroid imbalance,” he says. Other symptoms they treat include insomnia, foggy thinking, mood swings, low libido, hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms.

Morley says Tomorrow Medicine is reversing and preventing disease in their patients with programs and treatments like medical weight loss, bio-identical hormone replacement, IV vitamin therapy, ozone and chelation therapies and detoxification.
