Explore Hidden Habitats of the Southern Preserve: Exclusive Exploration Walks

Anne’s Meadow in Mianus River Gorge Preserve

On October 2 from 1 to 3 p.m., Mianus River Gorge (MRG) in Bedford will host the third in its series of walks exploring areas of the gorge usually not open to the public. Led by Executive Director Rod Christie, this walk will explore some of the more diverse habitats of the southern preserve, one of MRG’s primary research areas.

This moderately strenuous hike, which is less than a mile long, will pass through habitats including hidden meadows, vernal pools, streams and a deep hemlock forest. The rock outcroppings in the undulating topography are ideal habitats for bobcats and other rare wildlife. Participants should wear good walking shoes and bring water. Parking is available along the southeast side of the road near 14 Mianus River Road.

MRG works to protect and promote appreciation of the natural heritage of the Mianus River watershed through land acquisition, conservation science, research and education throughout the region.

Mianus River Gorge is located at 167 Mianus River Rd., Bedford, NY. For more info, call 914.234.3455 or visit Mianus.org.
