Fundraiser Supports Sensory Garden for Nicaraguan Children: By Arts Unchained, a Creative Arts Therapy Group

Arts Unchained, which collaboratively develops and implements opportunities for creative arts therapy for communities in the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua, is holding a November 7 fundraiser to help build a sensory garden in Niño Feliz, a Nicaraguan school for children with special needs. The event, which will take place at the Mill in Hastings on Hudson, will feature a silent art auction, live jazz by Chris Conte, free food, raffles and door prizes.

Niño Feliz educates children with a variety of diagnoses, including Down syndrome, autism, severe physical disabilities and hearing and visual impairments. This sustainable sensory garden will provide a safe, therapeutic and environmentally conscious area for the children to learn through play.

Arts Unchained is a subcommittee of the nonprofit FNE International. The therapeutic experiences it facilitates enable graduate students, partnering community organizations and professionals to learn and integrate theoretical knowledge from a variety of frameworks (clinical, behavioral, educational and the creative arts therapies). Arts Unchained and FNE International regularly support the work of the teachers and children at Niño Feliz.

The Mill is located at 583 Warburton Ave., Hastings on Hudson. For tickets or to donate online, visit EventBrite.com and search for Nicaragua Sensory Garden Project. For more info, visit FNEInternational.org/art/.
