Pilates for Ski Conditioning: Elite Performance Physical Therapy
Tina Sferra demonstrating Tye4 Ski Turn Squats
Physical therapist Tina Sferra, who specializes in sports medicine, dance medicine and Pilates, is now offering private sessions in Pilates for Ski Conditioning. “Skiing is an amazing and exhilarating sport—and it’s even more amazing when you achieve a fitness level that empowers you to safely take charge of the mountain,” she says.
Sferra, who operates Elite Performance Physical Therapy of Westchester, designed the private sessions to facilitate elite performance through injury prevention. Sessions incorporate Pilates Reformer to help train quick response to a changing environment under any condition; Pilates Reformer Cardio Trampoline to practice Ski Hop Jump training to “step into the downhill ski”; and Mountain Climber on the Pilates Chair, which serves as stability hip training for knee alignment and protection.
“It’s best to work out the kinks now, before you hit the slopes, so that you can be the best all-powerful skiing machine,” Sferra says. “I’m also introducing the exciting TYE4 Bungee system for sport specificity. Now we go for length and strength in opposition. Rotation with back extension prevents disc injuries, creating a smooth turn during your ski jump hop and pole plant action. My main goal is to work hard, play hard and have fun.”
Elite Performance Physical Therapy of Westchester is housed in Katonah Yoga Bedford Hills. For more info, contact Sferra at 917.476.2164 or via ElitePTandPilates.com.
