Betty Prinsen is now offering ionic detox footbath (IDF) services at Online Hair Designs, located in Putnam Plaza on Route 6 in Carmel, and Cosmo Hair Salon, located at 3101 Route 22 in Patterson. As a teaching ballerina with a master’s in dance education from Columbia, Prinsen says she knows firsthand how the feet affect the entire body. “The IDF is an emerging treatment to detoxify the body, which contributes to feeling revitalized, relaxed, balanced and less stressed,” she says. “When your body and mind are relaxed, you can live life more profoundly and your body can heal.”

Bruce Given of Lake Peekskill says that after years of “climbing the walls” with leg pain, his first IDF treatment almost completely relieved it, and he’s seen further improvement with continuous treatments. “The footbath keeps reducing the swelling and pain in my leg, and it cleared up some rashes I had on my feet, and some bruises, too,” he says.

IDF is a simple process that takes just over half an hour, Prinsen says. “For 35 minutes, the feet are placed in a tub of hot water with salt and an electronic device, which produces a low-risk electrical charge to the water. Using the science of ionization and osmosis, the charged water draws out toxins through the skin and into the water. After treatment, the body’s natural detoxification processes function more efficiently and continue the elimination of toxins for three to five days.”
