Herbs and Colloidal Silver for Natural Allergy Control: "This can help a beleaguered immune system and stop a sinus infection—a wonderful prophylactic for the allergy season.”

Early summer can be full of pollens, as a large part of the country is in bloom, with ragweed and purple loosestrife filling the air with allergens. While this has been the case for thousands of years, seasonal allergies seem to have become both more severe and more pervasive recently. Fortunately there are two natural remedies, herbs and colloidal silver, that have been shown to counter allergy symptoms, says Steven Frank, chief herbalist at Nature’s Rite in Sarasota, Florida.

When the body comes into contact with allergens, it releases histamines—the chemicals that trigger symptoms like sneezing, a runny nose, congestion and swelling of membranes and tissues.

There are a number of herbs that, when absorbed by the membranes inside the nose, enter the cells and cause them to produce their own antihistamines, Frank says. “Rather than spraying steroids into your nose in an effort to override the histamine response, a natural solution is to encourage the cells, by way of these herbs, to produce their own antihistamines. This way you can interrupt the cycle of overt symptoms without becoming dependant on a steroidal spray.”

Yarrow leaf, horseradish root, elderflower and eyebright are a few herbs that can break the histamine cycle naturally, he says. “A decoction of these, with calendula and aloe for soothing, works wonderfully as a natural congestion relief.”

Another approach is to use a spray consisting of an enhanced aqueous silver colloid, which works much like a styptic pencil to constrict micro-capillaries inside the nose.

“The shrinking of the nasal tissues reduces swelling and congestion while also killing bacteria and fungus,” Frank says. “This can help a beleaguered immune system and stop a sinus infection—a wonderful prophylactic for the allergy season.”
