Anatomy, Alexander Technique and Movement with Karla Booth: Designed to help participants get to know their bodies and how they should move

Karla Booth teaching Alexander Technique

Karla Booth, who teaches the Alexander Technique and has 30-plus years’ experience as a dancer and movement teacher, is offering a new five-workshop series, Anatomy, Alexander Technique and Movement, at Quest Yoga Arts in Mount Kisco.

The series, designed to help participants get to know their bodies and how they should move, will begin April 20 with Getting to Know Your Head. “Through understanding the delicate balance of the head on the spine and its design as a counterbalance to the postural muscles, participants will have a better understanding of body mechanics,” Booth says. “But this workshop is more than that. It will also be an introduction to the principles of the Alexander Technique and a mindbody exploration, so that you can find greater ease in everyday life.”

The next workshops are From the Bottom Up, focused on the role of the ankles and feet in ease of movement; The Knee Bone Is Connected to the Thigh Bone, focused on the ankle-knee-hip relationship; Oh, That’s Where My Hip Joint Is, focused on the distinction between the hip and pelvis; and Leave Your Shoulders Alone, focused on the shoulder girdle.

All workshops will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on a Thursday. The cost is $50 for one workshop or $200 for all five. Class size is limited to 10 people.
