Sound Movement Welcomes Instructor Georgia Sanford: “I encourage my clients to adopt a softer approach to their bodies."

Georgia Sanford

Georgia Sanford, who specializes in Pilates as an athletic healing modality, has joined the staff of Sound Movement. Sanford received her training and certification in Pilates from the Kane School of Core Integration in New York City and is currently a resident at kinectED Residency Program.

After sustaining several injuries as a dancer and former competitive horseback rider, Sanford became interested in Pilates as a means to heal her body and its imbalances. She says her work with clients emphasizes the importance of proper biomechanics and quiet focus in building a strong, connected, responsive body; through Pilates, she gives people the tools they need to exercise without injury or overexertion in a body-positive and encouraging environment.

“As Joseph Pilates famously wrote, ‘It is the mind itself that shapes the body,’” she says. “I encourage my clients to adopt a softer approach to their bodies. That includes creating the space for a less-critical internal dialogue and utilizing the breath and body movement to ground into their bodies. To me, Pilates is the perfect modality to invite the mind into the spaciousness, strength, vitality and wisdom of the body.”
