Seventh Annual Earth Day Festival in Ossining: April 22 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Louis B. Engel Waterfront Park

Green Ossining’s seventh annual Earth Day Festival will take place on April 22 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Louis B. Engel Waterfront Park. Visitors to this family-friendly event can learn how to live a more sustainable life, meet artisan vendors and enjoy food and live music on the Hudson River. The festival has grown from roughly 300 attendees in its fi rst year to 4,000 in 2016, and this year’s event is expected to be even bigger.

Held in celebration of the 47th anniversary of Earth Day, the 2017 festival will focus on the theme of food sustainability, including issues such as food waste, cooking and food preservation, nutrition, edible gardens, backyard food and permaculture, and access to food. Activities and educational opportunities aligned with each area will be highlighted throughout the festival.

There will be local food, including vegetarian and vegan fare, as well as craft beer available for sale. Live entertainment will be provided by local musicians and presented by stage hosts Mike and Miriam Risko and the Mike Risko Band. Special activities and areas will include a kids’ zone, an eco-demonstration and hands-on activities focused on food sustainability, and river activities and advocacy. Among the groups and vendors represented at the festival will be artisans, providers of “green” services and products, and community organizations dedicated to sustainability.

The event is hosted by Green Ossining in partnership with the Town and Village of Ossining, and with sponsorship support from a variety of community businesses.
