White Plains Earth Weekend Features Free Film Screening: April 21 through 24

White Plains will celebrate Earth Weekend April 21 through 24, highlighted by the free screening of Disneynature’s film Born in China at 10 a.m. April 22, at City Center 15: Cinema de Lux, located at 19 Mamaroneck Avenue. Tickets are available on a first-come, firstserved basis and can be picked up at the check-in table of the theater on the day of the event.

From April 21 to April 24 at noon, people can pledge their sustainability goals on the Trees of Hope and create environmentally inspired pictures on the recycled art space in the Cinema de Lux corridor. And from now until April 23, they can reduce, reuse and recycle by donating shoes through Soles 4 Souls at Ebersole Ice Rink at Delfi no Park, located at 110 Lake Street.

Earth Weekend is presented by the White Plains Business Improvement District, a nonprofit established to improve the cultural, social and economic climate of downtown White Plains. Services provided by the BID include street cleaning and beautifi cation, business outreach and marketing and special events.

Upcoming events from the BID include a Cinco de Mayo celebration on May 7 and the Memorial Day 5K run/walk on May 29, both taking place on streets closed to traffic in downtown White Plains. The BID’s Summer SOULstice concert will take place June 22 at 5 p.m. at Church and Main Streets, and the White Plains JazzFest will be held September 13 to 17 on the public stage at Mamaroneck and Martine Avenues. The year concludes with the largest New Year’s celebration in Westchester, with a live band, ball drop and fireworks display.
