Market at Union Hall Opens in North Salem: Seven-day-a-week organic market and café

Jeffery Albanesi and Daniel Pereira owners of The Market at Union Hall

Daniel Pereira and Jeffery Albanesi have opened a new, seven-day-a-week organic market and café in the historic Union Hall building in North Salem.

Pereira, who has been in the industry for more than 15 years, says the Market at Union Hall fulfills a longtime personal goal. “I’ve always dreamed of opening up my own store in an environment where I would feel like I’m on vacation every day,” he says. “Union Hall is the perfect place. I’m so grateful that we are able to have our store in a space filled with so much love and character.”

All the meats, eggs, milk and cheeses sold at the Market at Union Hall come from local farms, and the coffee is locally sourced too, he says. “The people that I buy the coffee from travel all over South America to get the best coffee beans. Then they come back to United States and roast the beans themselves at their facility in Tarrytown.”

One of the owners’ requirements is knowing the background of the farmers they buy from. “I truly believe that we are what we put in our bodies,” Pereira says. “I learned that the coffee trees aren’t sprayed with chemicals or pesticides, and that’s why I chose these roasters to work with.”

The market offers a variety of groceries, frozen foods and dairy products, and its pastry section stocks locally made cakes, croissants, muffins, scones and cookies, as well as gluten-free baked goods, such as a corn coconut cake Pereira makes himself.

The Market at Union Hall is located at 2 Keeler Ln., North Salem, NY. Store hours are Sunday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Monday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Tuesday through Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call the store at 914.485.1555.
