New Class, Support Group at Full Circle Women’s Health: For new mothers and their families

Baby-led feeding

Full Circle Women’s Health, the Harrison practice that offers a wide range of educational and support services for new mothers and their families, has added a class in “baby-led feeding” as well as a support group for postpartum depression and anxiety.

First popularized in Britain, the practice of baby-led feeding encourages babies to self-feed solid foods from the family meal instead of receiving purées via spoon, says Lisa Gussack, director of midwives for Full Circle Women’s Health. “Our new class explores the benefits and challenges, discusses common questions and reviews the safety and logistical aspects of baby self-feeding,” she says.

Full Circle’s new support group, led by a psychotherapist specializing in the treatment of perinatal mood disorders, offers alternative ways to cope with depression and anxiety after childbirth, which is a problem for many women. “Participants benefit from the opportunity to meet with other moms and share experiences in a safe and supportive environment,” Gussack says.

The variety of classes at Full Circle is an outgrowth of its Pregnancy Partnership, a collaboration between midwife and patient that embraces the common goal of a healthy, vibrant pregnancy, birth and postpartum experience.

Full Circle Women’s Health is located at 450 Mamaroneck Ave., Harrison, NY. To register for classes or to learn more about the Pregnancy Partnership, call 914.421.1500 or visit FullCircle-WomensHealth.com.
