Dr. Leigh Damkohler, a certified chiropractic sports physician and licensed massage therapist, is now offering custom orthotics made with cuttingedge 3D imaging that creates a blueprint for the feet and how they impact biomechanics.
“After painful orthotics from a reputable doctor who did a mold of my feet, I was looking for answers to obtaining the proper support for my feet,” Damkohler says. “In using these functional orthotics, I have seen a reduction in many patient symptoms—not just low back pain and sciatica, but also headaches and neck pain. They are an important part in supporting proper biomechanics and alignment.”
Feet are as unique as fingerprints, she explains. “Over-the-counter orthotics may initially cost less, but they only support one arch instead of all three in your foot, which may actually cause pain and symptoms, not relieve them.” She says custom functional orthotics can help give anyone a more balanced foundation and stable pelvis, helping adjustments “hold” better. She also often recommends their use by athletes, in addition to regular adjustments, to reduce the risk of injury and enhance athletic performance.
After nearly 14 years of chiropractic experience, Damkohler says she’s excited to add these state-of-theart orthotics to her toolbox. “I’ve always given patients postural corrections and stretching to help maintain the benefits of treatment at home and correct the root of the problem, not just the symptoms. This tool helps patients visualize how their body is supported from the ground up.”
