Stray H.E.L.P., a Fishkill-based nonprofit that rescues and advocates for homeless cats, will holds its fifth annual Community Day on November 11, from noon to 4:30 p.m., at Trinity Episcopal Church parish house, located at 5 Elm Street in Fishkill. The free event features family activities, vendors, food, music, raffles, educational exhibits and a showcase of cats and kittens available for adoption.

One of Stray H.E.L.P.’s services is low-cost spay/neuter and vaccinations. On Community Day, as a special Veterans Day thank you, the organization is offering an extra low cost of $35 to spay/neuter and vaccinate the cats of U.S. military members and veterans, says Ann LaGoy, president of Stray H.E.L.P. A clinic appointment is required, and a military ID must be shown to receive the discount. To schedule an appointment, call Althea at 845.705.5020. Clinic drop-off is early in the morning; details are provided when appointments are scheduled.

The mission of Stray H.E.L.P. is to rescue and care for stray and homeless cats while providing humane education to the community, LaGoy says. “We believe in the trap/neuter/return or place philosophy—there is a choice, an opportunity, for every cat in Dutchess County. We work with community members and rescue organizations throughout the Mid-Hudson Valley.”
