Master Gardener Program: An intensive 10-week, 75-hour training, plus 100 volunteer hours performing community outreach in horticulture and gardening.

Demonstration Gardens at Hart’s Brook Park and Preserve: Gardens include vegetables, small fruits and berries, herbs and family garden.

Master Gardener Speakers Bureau: Speakers can present on a wide range of gardening subjects for $250 per presentation. For info, call 914.285.3590 or email [email protected].

Master Gardener Volunteer Site Visit Program: At-home lawn and garden education services to address horticultural problems. $180 per one-hour visit.

48th Annual Putnam County 4-H Fair: July 26 (noon-6 p.m.), July 27 (10 a.m.-7 p.m.) and July 28 (10 a.m.-5 p.m.). Putnam County Veteran Memorial Park, 201 Gypsy Trail Rd., Carmel Hamlet, NY. Free admission and parking.

Free guided hikes: From 1.5 to 3 hours. Adults and accompanied minors. Preregistration required. Upcoming hikes include California Hill Waywayanda Road Trail (July 20); Hawk Rock-Whangtown Road (August 24); and Michael Ciaiola Conservation Area (September 21).

Gardening education: Classes and demonstration landscapes focus on water conservation, best management practices and edible landscaping. The diagnostic lab offers integrated pest management options and agricultural and horticultural solutions.

Food gardening advice: CCE Dutchess provides an online one-stop shop of information for vegetable growers, including first and last planting dates, vegetable rotation and seed saving info.
