Janet Levine, a registered dietitian and dentist, will give a presentation, The Power of Plant-Based Nutrition, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on November 20 at Somers Library. She will explain how whole foods and common spices can be used to prevent and reverse disease, without side effects.

Eating a whole food, plant-based diet has been scientifically proven to prevent and even reverse chronic illnesses, including heart disease, diabetes and gastrointestinal diseases. It’s also the diet many athletes choose to achieve maximum performance. In her presentation, Levine will discuss how to prepare plant-based foods that are satisfying, nutrition packed and tasty. She will also explain what eating plant-based really means, why it’s good for us, and how plant-based nutrition can be a healthier and more effective alternative to medication for treatment of many common diseases.

Long fascinated by the effects of good nutrition on health, Levine completely changed her definition of “healthy foods” after learning about plant-based nutrition seven years ago. Since then she’s become an advocate for the plant-based diet, teaching people about foods that can help them avoid chronic diseases and eliminate the need for many medications.
