On Thanksgiving, family and friends gather around the dinner table for yummy food and good conversation. Satisfying diverse palates and dietary choices can be challenging, however. For those who are planning a vegan Thanksgiving or simply have someone on the guest list with a dietary restriction, Skinny Buddha Organic Kitchen, in Mount Kisco, is a great resource. All their menu items are gluten free, plant based, organic, kosher and made in house, by hand.

Natural Awakenings recently caught up with Elyce Jacobson, co-owner of Skinny Buddha, to see what’s cooking in November.

What’s on the menu at Skinny Buddha this month?  We have hot chili available every day, and we rotate our soup of the day and our deli case options. We’ll be incorporating more root vegetables and squashes to keep in line with the season.

What are the returning favorites, and what’s new this year? One of our most popular fall soups is our butternut bisque. We’ll be bringing that back for sure. Our sweet potato salad and our carrot ginger soup are oldies but goodies; they’ll stick around as well. New this year are our nachos, burgers and Penne Bolognese. We’ll also have our wild mushroom penne available later in the month.

Can people buy a complete vegan Thanksgiving dinner at Skinny Buddha? Yes—we offer a rather large Thanksgiving menu. You can choose from à la carte items or order a full dinner, soup through dessert. If you just have one or two guests that are vegan, dairy free or gluten free, it’s a nice option to be able to give them a full Thanksgiving dinner.

When is pick-up for Thanksgiving?  Orders must be placed by Wednesday, November 20. The pick-up window is Wednesday, November 27, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

What is your most popular item? Hands down our kale salad. Second and third place are a tie: our matcha green tea smoothie and our hummus wrapped in collard greens.

Any other seasonal items?  We have lots of soups, as I mentioned, and our ginger latte is a very popular fall favorite. We brew it with fresh organic ginger, turmeric and cinnamon. Soon we’ll be adding a full list of espresso drinks to our menu.

What’s next for Skinny Buddha? New and exciting things will be happening in Mount Kisco. Stay tuned!
