SPACE on Ryder Farm

SPACE on Ryder Farm, a nonprofit residency program and certified organic farm in Brewster, has opened registration for its 2020 CSA (Community-Supported Art + Agriculture) Membership. This program involves the same reciprocal relationship as traditional CSAs—members provide up-front revenue for farmers and are rewarded with weekly shares of the harvest—but it also includes a unique art component.

Drawing from SPACE’s network of over 1,400 alumni of its artistic-residency programs, CSA members also receive works of art—from poetry to music to plays to visual art—cultivated on Ryder Farm. All members are invited to attend an end-of-season celebration and potluck on the farm in October.

SPACE offers its CSA memberships to Westchester and Putnam county families on a sliding scale to ensure participation is accessible by all. Shares are available for as little as $19 a week, and a percentage of shares are fully subsidized for individuals and families in need. This effort is supported by community donations to SPACE’s Friend of the Harvest Fund as well as its Friend of the Harvest CSA Memberships, each of which underwrites a share for a neighbor in need in addition to the member’s own share. Donations to the fund are tax-deductible.

The 2020 CSA Membership will run for 18 weeks, from June 10 to October 17. Memberships can be extended through Thanksgiving with a Fall Add-On Share. Weekly shares will be available for pickup at Ryder Farm on Wednesdays from 4 to 7 p.m. or Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon. Shares are available in two sizes: full, recommended for families of four; and half, recommended for individuals or couples.

SPACE on Ryder Farm, now celebrating its 10th anniversary, is located on the grounds of a 225-year-old family homestead in Putnam County. Its mission is to create an environment that invigorates artists and innovators and their work, and to contribute to the sustainability and preservation of one of the oldest organic family farms on the East Coast.

Location: Ryder Farm, 406 Starr Ridge Rd., Brewster, NY. For more info or to purchase a CSA membership, visit Ryder Farm.
