Sound Earth Leads Trends Again with Less Packaging

As New York State’s sole manufacturer of all-natural, cruelty-free cleaning products, Sound Earth makes a habit of staying ahead of trends. Their use of essential oils is a case in point.

“We’ve always used therapeutic-grade essential oils to add disinfecting power to our cleaning products, but the spiritual benefits of these lovely oils is becoming more mainstream knowledge. We are rising to meet that demand,” says owner and operator Ann LaGoy.

In the same way, Sound Earth committed long ago to being a compassionate, green business, even as it grows and expands.

“One significant way to implement sustainable packaging to use less of it,” she says. “The majority of our cleaning products come in concentrate form. Smarter, more environmentally conscious packaging has a positive impact on the market we serve. Smaller labels and reusable packaging make a big difference too.”

The plastic-versus-paper debate rages even as more consumers shop online, arguably producing even more packaging. LaGoy notes that 10 percent of every purchase goes toward packaging that’s thrown away. Packaging represents about 65 percent of household trash.

This summer, Sound Earth will roll out less packaging for its aromatherapy products and gifts to include illustrations from local artist Peggy Ferrington, as well as green diffusers.

“Readers can follow our progress on Facebook and Twitter,” LaGoy says. “We’ll be sharing new illustrations and inviting follower suggestions, too.”
