Smart Start: Foundational Skills for Developing the Whole Child
Dr. Kristy Vanacore
Parents of newborns and toddlers are being encouraged to register for a three-part parenting workshop on the importance of play and nature in developing successful children. The workshop will be presented by Kristy Vanacore, PhD, a child psychologist specializing in child, teen and family wellness, and Ridvan Foxhall, a pediatric occupational therapist.
“Parenting in today’s world can be a daunting task,” Vanacore says. “Parents are trusting their instincts less and the Internet more, and the flurry of information can be overwhelming. Play and nature-based interactions are at the core of how children develop their intellect, bodies, and social and emotional intelligence. Children require opportunities to explore and take risks in order to develop their multiple intelligences and navigate the world safely and healthfully.”
The workshop is designed to empower parents by providing important information based on research and both clinical and personal experiences, so that they can make informed choices.
The workshop will be held November 7, 2014, December 5 and January 9, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., at 334 Underhill Avenue, 3C, Yorktown Heights, NY. To register, call 914.497.8006 or email [email protected].
