New Microbusiness Employs Young Adults with Special Needs: It creates employment opportunities within supportive environments where everyone has a sense of purpose

The Extended Family (TEF), a Westchester/Putnam-based nonprofit, has teamed with Guatemalan direct-trade organization De La Gente (DLG) to launch a new microbusiness, A Dream in Every Bean, staffed by people with special needs. TEF will purchase DLG- roasted coffee beans and hire exceptional individuals to weigh, bag, label, sell, distribute, pack and ship coffee to customers and retail locations.

For people who require one-on-one, qualified support, traditional employment is not an option. So TEF was founded to provide meaningful engagement for exceptional young adults, empowering them to live productive lives. It creates employment opportunities within supportive environments where everyone has a sense of purpose. A Dream in Every Bean is TEF’s first planned microbusiness.

DLG’s mission is “to create economic opportunities that improve the quality of life for their families and communities.”
