Organic Hair by Helen, an eco-friendly hair and wellness salon in Yorktown Heights, has added two new hair color lines: Oway, by Simply Organic, and Chi Organic. Salon owner Helen Thaler, who has more than 30 years’ experience as a stylist, says she chooses products that use natural ingredients and create natural-looking results. 

The salon offers a variety of hair services, including cuts; color matching; root touch-ups; perms or curly or soft waves; natural keratin treatments; organic straightening treatments; highlights; and scalp massage. It also offers customized organic facials using “spectra-hue light therapy” to balance a lack of daily sunlight intake. All products used in the salon contain no harsh chemicals.

Both Oway and Chi organic are not just ammonia free, but also PPD, PPT and gluten free, Thaler says. “These products have been proven to give 100 percent gray coverage with colors that are not brassy. They will lift your hair color to very light shades compared to past organic color products. I can create perfectly natural colors without using harsh, chemical-based products.”

Jonathan Thaler offers acupuncture, massage and CranioSacral Therapy at the salon. Helen Thaler teaches Hatha yoga and meditation classes there and will lead a yoga retreat in Malaysia next year.
