Let’s face it—most men do not like to go to the doctor. They would rather ignore health issues until they get to a point when something must finally be evaluated and possibly treated. The prostate gland is one of those areas that men tend to not want to think about unless they find themselves having annoying symptoms related to urination.
A healthy prostate is about the size of a walnut and its main function is to produce prostatic fluid to carry the sperm. While it does grow slowly as men get older, symptoms related to an enlarged prostate are not a normal sign of aging. Most men as they age will experience issues with their prostate gland and if it is not properly taken care of can lead to worsening symptoms, decreased quality of life and possibly cancer.
The cause of an enlarged prostate is unknown, but it’s believed to be linked to hormonal changes as men age. Enlarged prostates are also known as benign prostatic enlargement (BPE) or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Common indicators of the condition include the sudden urge to urinate, a straining or painful sensation when urinating, feeling that the bladder is not completely empty and getting up more than once at night to urinate. Nearly 50 percent of men (ages 50 to 60) don’t recognize these symptoms as they are often mild, but the severity can impair quality of life and research suggests that men with moderate or severe symptoms have an increased risk of serious heart conditions, stroke and heart attacks.
Stress and anxiety can impact the hormones that play a role in triggering the enlargement of the prostate. When the body is under stress, it releases higher amounts of the cortisol hormone. In men, cortisol has the effect of suppressing testosterone. As testosterone levels decrease, there is a corresponding increase in estrogen levels which indirectly stimulates the growth of prostate cells. Another hormone, dihydrotestosterone (DHT), is responsible for prostate cellular growth. Prolonged and intense stress can cause elevated levels of DHT contributing to the enlargement of the prostate gland.
Another effect of stress in on the body’s level of zinc. Zinc plays an important role in regulating the expansion rate of the prostate gland. The prostate contains more zinc than any other human tissue. When there is a deficiency, this can also lead to prostate enlargement.
Western medicine’s approach is usually by using pharmaceutical agents or surgery. However, when the body’s energy is balanced and qi energy is not blocked, the body is capable of incredible amounts of healing.
One way to improve prostate health and any underlying issues is through the use of Ondamed. Ondamed, which means “wave medicine”, is a painless, non-invasive energy treatment that utilizes highly focused pulsed electromagnetic frequencies that penetrate down to the cellular level. These frequencies are only in the range of what the human body normally uses to function. Ondamed stimulates tissues and “reboots” cellular activities to facilitate detoxification, reduce inflammation and promote healing. It has been shown to improve cases of BPE/BPH, as well as improving response to prostatic cancer treatments when acting as an adjuvant treatment. Ondamed complements other treatments: conventional Western medicine, acupuncture and homeopathic remedies.
Other ways one can support the health of the prostate without the use of medications include:
• Manage stress and anxiety by doing deep breathing, reconnecting with nature or some guided imagery meditation.
• Incorporate zinc-rich foods into diets (e.g. pumpkin seeds, cashews, chickpeas, oysters, lobster, crab, beef, pork).

While preventative care is always optimal, early intervention and treatment consistency for PBE or BPH is key to achieving good results. Like a classic car requires regular maintenance to run well, so does the human body.
